Doctrinal Statement from Cheri Lynn Cowell
I grew up in a Christian home (both grandfathers were Methodist pastors). I like to call myself a John Wesley Methodist who believes…
1. In the Trinity. I have a childlike faith in the Trinity (God is the three in one, each person of God being unique and whole, yet part of One)
2. In the Holy Scriptures. They are the living, breathing Word of God containing the power to transform and inform our everyday lives.
3. In the Church. It is the bride who is readying herself for her wedding day when the Bridegroom shall come to take her home. It is the body of all believers who call on the name of Jesus as Lord, Savior, and King.
4. In the Priesthood of All Believers. Each person within the church is uniquely gifted as a part of the body of Christ. We are to use those gifts to “build up” the body so we might become the perfect reflection of the Father: loving, tender, compassionate, disciplined, trustworthy, confident, sensitive, accountable, forgiving, sacrificial, submissive, just, joyful, humble, orderly, giving, and holy.
As I have grown in my faith, I have become more conservative in doctrine, and more charismatic in my exercise of that faith. What I am called to do as a writer and speaker is to speak truths to the body of Christ: speaking the tough truths when needed, and sharing the hope that is a true gift to all who call themselves followers of Jesus Christ.
